Compliance & market adaptation
Compliance is not a document you attach at the end of a shipment. The destination market decides what we build: the keyboard, the plug, the display language, the radio certification, the labelling and the battery paperwork. We confirm the exact set against your model and your market before production, in writing.
A unit going to a distributor in the European Union and one going to a reseller in the United States can share the same mainboard and still need different chargers, different keyboard layouts, a different certification set and different labelling. Treating those as paperwork at the end is how shipments get held at the border.
This page sets out what adapts, what we will and will not claim about certification, and how the set for your order gets confirmed.
These are the elements that change with the destination. Each one is decided at a different point, so the useful question is not only what changes but when it has to be settled.
| Element | What changes | Settled when |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard layout and language | Layout, legends and function-key arrangement for the market | At specification freeze |
| Plug and charger type | Mains plug, adapter type and any regional input requirement | At quotation - it affects the bill of materials |
| Display language and pre-installed software | Operating system language, regional settings, pre-loaded applications | At specification freeze |
| Radio and EMC certification for the region | Which certification set applies to this model in this market | Before production, confirmed per order |
| Energy and eco labelling | Where the market or your channel requires a label or declaration | Before production |
| Packaging and marking | Carton artwork, markings, language on the label, regional barcode or retail requirements | Before production |
| Battery transport documentation | Battery reference and transport documents to review for the intended carrier route | Review during quotation; reconfirm before shipment |
| Take-back and recycling obligations | Where the market places obligations on the seller rather than the manufacturer | Before you commit to the market |
Certification is the easiest thing for a supplier to overstate and the most expensive for you to discover late. These are the statements we stand behind.
Four points, in order. The earlier a gap is found, the cheaper it is to deal with.
Your obligation is set by your market's regulator and your channel's contract, not by this page. These are the places worth checking before you brief any supplier.
Start with the intended market, exact build and importer requirements, then review the applicable official guidance and the evidence available for that configuration. A list of certification acronyms does not establish complete market access or customs acceptance.
Track five items as available and matched, awaiting review, or requiring additional work. A reference copy can support early discussion; complete review evidence must be agreed for the order.
| Review item | Record to compare |
|---|---|
| Model and build | Model identifier, board revision, configuration and the scope named on the document |
| Radio and supplied power | Fitted wireless module, adapter reference, plug and any changes from the evaluated build |
| Battery and shipping route | Battery identifier, rated voltage and capacity, available transport documents and carrier review |
| Declarations and supporting evidence | Applicable document, issuing or signing party, date, covered product and supporting file references |
| Outstanding actions | Missing evidence, additional work, responsible reviewer, agreed cost and release condition |
For S18D, confirm the ordered battery and supplied power package before matching documents. A change to the configuration can require another review. Record specification status and send the purchasing brief with open items.
EU guidance connects the declaration of conformity with the conformity assessment and supporting technical documentation. FCC guidance describes equipment authorization procedures. Use these sources to identify the review path for the exact product rather than treating a logo as the whole file.

Send the platform, the configuration and the market it is going to. We will come back with the documentation set that applies, and flag anything your market requires that the platform does not hold.
