Customization

Custom laptop programmes, from the logo to the BIOS

We receive a large number of customisation enquiries, and the ideas vary enormously - both in what buyers want changed and in how much they expect to order. This page sets out exactly what can be customised on a laptop, and how minimum order quantity actually works, so you can plan a programme that ships instead of one that stalls.

Plan your brand customization.

Review artwork, packaging and start-up requirements in detail before sending your project brief.

What can actually be customised

Logo, keyboard, packaging, software and boot-artwork requests require review of the selected model, quantity, materials and process. Each may have separate minimums, setup costs, approval steps and preparation time. Custom enclosure and mainboard tooling are not offered. Hardware options need a separate compatibility and availability check for the selected model and board.

Product logo and enclosure branding

Confirm artwork, dimensions, placement, surface, printing or marking process, quantity and setup costs for the selected enclosure. Approve the reference before production.

  • Back-shell logo
  • Nameplate

Packaging and carton artwork

Request dimensions and the proposed packaging structure for the ordered build. Confirm artwork, language, inserts, shipping marks, material minimums, setup costs and approval evidence before printing.

  • Artwork from your file
  • Artwork by our design team

BIOS customisation

Review the exact board and firmware version, supported identification strings, settings and boot behaviour. Firmware changes require feasibility review, validation, approval and a recovery plan.

  • Brand strings
  • Boot behaviour

Boot logo

Confirm whether boot artwork is supported on the selected firmware, along with file requirements, validation, setup costs and approval. A logo request does not establish unrestricted BIOS customisation.

  • Splash screen
  • Post-screen branding

Pre-installed software

Agree the image, drivers, applications, operating-system edition, activation and licensing responsibilities in writing. Test compatibility on the exact ordered build before approval.

  • Your image
  • Your app set

User manual and documentation

Confirm which manuals, translations, inserts and support contacts are included. Agree buyer-supplied text, review responsibility, artwork, quantity and any additional preparation charges.

  • Your language
  • Your template

Power supply specification

Confirm the supplied adapter, input/output ratings, charging method, cable and regional plug for the exact build. A connector alone does not establish charging capability. S18D supplied power remains to be confirmed.

  • Regional plug
  • Cable and adapter

System language

Confirm the required display and input languages against the operating-system edition, image and licence. System language is separate from physical keyboard layout and printed legends.

  • Widely used languages
  • Per-market images

Keyboard language

Review the physical key arrangement, legends, keyboard assembly and any overlay separately. An overlay does not change the physical layout. Confirm model, materials, quantity, costs and approval evidence; see keyboard and system-language options.

  • US, German, Italian, French, Spanish
  • Printed overlays

Memory and storage configuration

Check onboard or replaceable memory, supported capacity and the actual storage medium, connector and slot for the selected board. NB15 references 128GB eMMC; PN141’s 128GB capacity does not establish an SSD.

  • RAM
  • SSD capacity

Processor selection

Compare the CPU in the exact model reference and confirm the proposed board. Intel and AMD references belong to supported builds; a CPU change may require a different board, cooling and power design. Current-generation availability is not implied across all models.

  • Intel or AMD
  • Celeron to i9

Panel and display options

Confirm size, resolution, touch, brightness and colour requirements for the supported panel and board. Current Core i3 P1 is a 17.5-inch non-touch clamshell; J1 and R2 are touch convertibles.

  • Resolution
  • Touch and colour gamut

Battery capacity and runtime profile

Confirm the supplied pack identifier, voltage, capacity, energy and available test evidence. Runtime requires agreed workload and test conditions. S18D battery details can vary between orders and versions.

  • Capacity
  • Runtime target

Compliance to your destination market

Confirm the product and battery transport documents for the exact model, board, battery and destination before order approval. Availability and applicability must be checked for the ordered build; another model’s documents do not automatically apply.

  • Per-market certificates
  • Battery documents

How minimum order quantity actually works

This is the part of custom sourcing that buyers most often misjudge, so it is worth being direct about the mechanics.

Separate evaluation from custom production

Ask which exact standard build is available for evaluation, then review requested branding or configuration changes separately. Preparation, price and approval are model-specific. S18D is bulk-only with no evaluation samples.

Review each requested change

Quantity alone does not establish feasibility. Logo, keyboard assembly, packaging, software and firmware may have different material minimums, setup charges and validation needs.

Use quantities as planning references

MOQ depends on the exact model, configuration, materials and branding process. Selected available standard configurations may be quoted from one unit for evaluation. Around 100 units for a stocking batch and 1,000 units for a custom programme are planning references, subject to quotation. S18D is bulk-only with no evaluation samples.

If you cannot reach the MOQ

It is not a dead end. Tell us what you are trying to achieve and work through it in this order:

  1. Send the requirement, even if the volume is well below 1,000 units.
  2. Our engineers review it against the platforms and stock we already hold.
  3. We integrate a solution around what is genuinely available, rather than quoting something we cannot deliver.
  4. You get as much of your requirement as our existing resources allow, with the compromised points stated plainly.

Selected available China-stock configurations typically dispatch in 2-3 business days after stock, payment and order details are confirmed. Overseas stock, coverage and transit depend on the exact model and address. Sample preparation and production are quoted separately; dispatch is not an arrival guarantee.

How a custom programme runs

Use the stages below as a planning framework. Required feasibility checks, approval evidence and validation vary with the change; logo artwork and a processor or board change do not require identical work.

1. Brief

Target market, intended volume, platform of interest and the customisation items you want.

2. Engineering review and quotation

Record the exact build, feasible scope, material minimums, setup charges, documents and separate preparation and production milestones. Custom enclosure and mainboard tooling are not offered.

3. Sample or agreed approval evidence

Confirm whether the exact model is available for evaluation and what evidence approves the order. S18D has no evaluation samples; a different model’s sample does not approve an S18D bulk order.

4. Specification freeze

Approve the dated build specification, artwork, open-item closure and required evidence alongside the agreed commercial documents. Record proposed changes and their validation, cost and schedule effects.

5. Mass production

Built to the frozen specification. Any change from here is a change order with its own cost and schedule effect.

6. Inspection and dispatch

Final quality inspection, shipping documents and the compliance set for your destination market.

Customization questions

What is the minimum order quantity for a customised laptop?

MOQ depends on the exact model, configuration, materials and branding process. Selected available standard configurations may be quoted from one unit for evaluation. Around 100 units for a stocking batch and 1,000 units for a custom programme are planning references, subject to quotation. S18D is bulk-only with no evaluation samples.

What if we cannot reach 1,000 units?

Send the exact model, quantity, destination and changes in priority order. We review a feasible route using supported builds and materials, then quote item-specific minimums, setup costs and preparation. A planning quantity alone does not establish feasibility.

Can I buy one customised unit to test the market?

Selected available standard builds may be quoted for evaluation. Custom branding or firmware preparation has a separate feasibility, price and schedule review. S18D is bulk-only with no evaluation samples.

Which parts of the laptop can be customised?

Logo, keyboard, packaging, software and boot-artwork requests require review of the selected model, quantity, materials and process. Each may have separate minimums, setup costs, approval steps and preparation time. Custom enclosure and mainboard tooling are not offered. Hardware, panel, battery and power options require compatibility checks for the selected board and build.

Which processors can we choose?

Confirm the processor and board in the exact model quotation. A processor change can require another board, cooling or power design; the range does not establish interchangeable CPUs or current-generation options on every model.

How long does a custom programme take?

Confirm separate milestones for feasibility review, artwork, sample or bulk-approval evidence, materials, production, inspection and dispatch. Preparation depends on the exact model and scope; transit is additional. S18D has no evaluation samples.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes. If your programme involves your own artwork, BIOS strings or a private specification, tell us at the brief stage and we will put the confidentiality arrangement in place before any drawings or files are exchanged.
